PawaPay at PROMOTE 2026: building across Central Africa

From 12 to 21 June, PawaPay will be in Yaoundé for PROMOTE 2026, one of Central Africa’s largest business and trade fairs.

We’ll be exhibiting throughout the event in the Pavillon Numérique, alongside businesses shaping the region’s digital economy. Teams from Cameroon, Gabon, and Congo-Brazzaville will be on the ground throughout the week, together with colleagues from Sales, Compliance, Treasury, and Solutions Engineering.

We’re also excited to be partnering with Mountain Hub to run a developer hackathon focused on building on top of mobile money infrastructure in Cameroon.

For PawaPay, PROMOTE is an opportunity to meet the businesses, developers, operators, and partners driving digital commerce across Central Africa.

Mobile money is core infrastructure across Africa

Mobile money is how hundreds of millions of people across Africa transact every day.

Consumers use mobile wallets to pay for transport, ecommerce, entertainment, remittances, betting, food delivery, subscriptions, and digital services. Across many African markets, mobile money has become the primary digital payments infrastructure.

PawaPay connects businesses to that infrastructure through a single API, handling operator integrations, compliance, settlement, treasury, and operational monitoring across more than 20 African markets.

To date, PawaPay has processed more than 3 billion successful transactions through direct mobile money integrations across the continent.

PawaPay Builders Cameroon

Together with Mountain Hub, we’re running PawaPay Builders Cameroon, a three-day hackathon focused on Cameroon’s developer ecosystem and the future of mobile money-powered commerce.

The hackathon runs from Monday 15 June to Wednesday 17 June, with finalists announced during PawaPay’s Thursday session at PROMOTE.

Participants will build products and services using mobile money infrastructure, supported by the PawaPay team and local developer community leaders.

“When developers in Cameroon think about mobile money infrastructure and payment integrations, we want PawaPay to be one of the platforms they consider first,” says Calixte Mapouna, Country Director for Cameroon. “There is strong technical talent across the region, and we want to support the builders creating the next generation of digital businesses.”
